Ferry Service Texel-Vlieland
Planning a day trip to Vlieland from Texel? Or perhaps visiting Texel from Vlieland? De Vriendschap and the Vliehors Expres form a unique connection between Paal 33 on Texel and Het Posthuys on Vlieland. Halfway, on the Vliehors, the truck and boat meet, allowing passengers to transfer. This makes the crossing a true adventure!
Whether you start on Texel with a boat trip across the Wadden Sea or begin your journey on Vlieland with a ride across the "Sahara of the North"—after an hour-long expedition, you’ll arrive on the other side, ready to explore the neighboring island.
Good to Know:
Boarding
De Vriendschap sails from beach to beach. Boarding takes place via characteristic wooden piers. This mix of sand and wood makes for great photos but can be tricky for narrow tires. If you’re traveling with a stroller, wheelchair, or bike, please keep this in mind.
Bicylce Rents
Bicycles can be rented on both Texel and Vlieland. It’s smart to book in advance!
• On Vlieland, rent your bike at Zeelen Bike Rental
• On Texel, book at Fietsen op Texel

Texel ↔ Vlieland Day Trip
The small, cozy, and car-free island of Vlieland has just one village: Oost-Vlieland. Its forests and dunes offer plenty of opportunities for nature lovers and those seeking tranquility. On the other hand, Texel boasts seven villages, an extensive cycling network, and a highly diverse landscape—offering both peace and activity. A visit to the neighboring island is always worth it!
The 12-kilometer-long sandbank De Vliehors on the Texel side of Vlieland is a truly unique area. This vast sandy plain is also known as the "Sahara of the North." On weekdays, it serves as a military training ground, but the Vliehors Expres will safely guide you across it.
We operate every year from the May holidays until the end of September. Check the calendar for current availability.
