As soon as the water recedes from a sandbank, the rich marine life of the Wadden Sea becomes visible. The guides will show you what to look for and explain exactly what is happening beneath your feet. You’ll start seeing the mudflats with fresh eyes!
The sea channel between Texel and Vlieland is both famous and notorious. Its ever-changing coastline makes it an exciting part of the sea. De Vriendschap is the only passenger ship navigating this unique part of the Wadden Sea: the Eierlandse Gat.
We’d love to take you on this special journey!
For children, we bring along nets and buckets. At the edge of the sandbank, they can have a great time fishing up all kinds of surprises. The guide is happy to answer all their questions about their discoveries.
Due to the deep channels around Texel, walking across the mudflats to Texel is not possible. Our experienced skippers know the area like the back of their hand and will take you to the right sandbank for a proper mudflat walk.
The sandbank is only exposed for a few hours each day. While standing barefoot in the mud or wet sand (or wearing shoes, your choice), the guides will tell you all about the fascinating life on the seabed of the Wadden Sea.
“What a unique experience to stand right in the middle of the Wadden Sea! The guides knew so much, truly impressive.”
“My kids loved searching for crabs and shrimp with the nets. They kept talking about it for hours!”
“An adventure on bare feet… who would have thought something so simple could leave such a deep impression?”
“The stories about the Eierlandse Gat and the tidal channels were fascinating. It made me realize how special the Wadden Sea really is.”
“I’ve been coming to Texel for years, but this was completely different. A unique experience I’d recommend to everyone!”
It’s not just about what you can see - there’s also plenty to hear, feel, and smell… After about an hour on the mudflats, we return to the boat. In good weather, you can choose to go barefoot. If that’s not for you, bring an extra pair of shoes that can get dirty. The mud’s scent will linger - an unforgettable souvenir!
The excursion lasts approximately 2 hours. The trips are scheduled according to the tides (high and low water), and we offer morning, afternoon, and evening tours. Check the calendar for available departure days and times.
